Common cold is a type of infection caused by a virus. If a person is suffering from a cold then he can infect many people. So it is better to use napkin while sneezing, wash hand with soap at regular interval. The common symptoms of cold are runny nose, fever, cough, headache, and body pain.


There are many homemade remedies that we can use to treat the common cold. Some of them are

1. Ginger:

Ginger has anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties which makes it a wonderful home remedy for curing common colds and infections of the respiratory tract. Drink ginger tea or chew up raw ginger many times a day to get relief.

2. Garlic:

Garlic has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties which help in fighting against cold and fevers naturally. It also helps to boost your immune system. Take 4-5 crushed garlic cloves and eat it raw or you can also add few drops of garlic oil to your food.

3. Drink fluids:

Drink 8-9 glasses of water or juice or any liquid daily when suffering from a cold. It helps to dampen the inner lining of the nose and throat making it easy to clear mucus. Also, it keeps your body hydrated.

4. Honey:

Honey has anti-bacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant properties which make it an excellent soothing and healing agent. and Honey contains nutrients and enzymes which assist in killing bacteria and viruses that cause cold. this Honey also helps to boost up your immunity power.

5. Basil leaves:

Basil leaves have anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties which make it a wonderful Ayurveda medicine. To get relief from cold, sore throat, fever, flu and headache, boil 8-10 basil leaves with tea and drink it slowly.

6. Chicken soup:

The anti-oxidant property and many important vitamins and nutrients present in chicken soup assist in healing cold symptoms. You can also add organic vegetables in the soup. It will also boost up your immunity power.

7. Turmeric:

Turmeric has antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which helps to sooth cough and fight against viral infections and cold. Add 2 tea spoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm water. Mix it well and drink it.

8. Pepper:

Pepper contains capsaicin which assists to thin the mucus and give relief from cold. Add pepper in your meal or drink a glass of warm water mixed with 1 tea spoon of black pepper to get rid of runny nose.

9. Milk:

Before going to sleep drinking milk along with turmeric and ginger powder assist in curing cough and cold. Take a glass of milk, boil it and then add 1 ½ small spoon of ginger powder and 1½ small spoon of turmeric powder in it. Leave it to cool down and then drink it.

10. Apple cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar is a great alkalizing food having antiviral properties. It assists in fighting against bacteria and balances the pH of your body. Mix 2 spoons of apple cider vinegar with warm water and then add 1 spoon of honey and 1 spoon of lemon juice. Drink it many times a day to get rid of the cold.
